Sweet Dreams are made of this… (Part 2 of 3)

Naz Helms, as we mentioned in our previous installment of our feature of Baby Eloise Wesley’s évolur Fairbanks Nursery in Winter White, has had an interesting journey to motherhood.

“I lost two jobs during the course of my pregnancy.” Says Naz. “The first was a start-up that shut down, the second happened after I got a new job and told them I was pregnant. Having shared the story with friends it seems like it happens to a lot more women than you would think. Unfortunately, it is very hard to prove as discrimination. In retrospect, it was a blessing in disguise, because I didn’t have pressure to return to work after my 6 weeks of disability ended.”

Looking at what Naz has done with the baby’s nursery in the context of what she says above, Naz’s positive disposition is so obvious! No wonder we fell in love with the nursery! Anyway, here’s our standard Q&A and we’ll be back shortly with our picture album.

What was your inspiration for the nursery design and décor?
I’m all about white, light, bright and cheery. I wanted to make sure I felt refreshed whenever we were in the room which will be more and more as Eloise grows.

What drew you to évolur over other nursery brands?
We wanted a product that would be durable. Evolur also gave us a nice clean look that wasn’t overly gaudy.

Did the room pose any design challenges?
Our nursery doesn’t get a lot of natural sunlight so I wanted to stick to light colors to ensure that it would be as bright as possible.

Did you and your spouse agree on style, or did you blend styles and how?
Luckily my husband always lets me decide when it comes to decor. He has his opinions but usually likes what I do. He’s well trained 😉

What does this color scheme mean to you?
Sticking to whites and greys keeps the room clean and bright. I wanted to incorporate the wood accents to bring the outdoors in and ensure that it wasn’t too sterile looking.

What accessories did you choose and why?
I love natural materials. Plastic things have their place but I generally prefer wood, fabric etc. I also love bringing a vintage vibe to meet our modern styles.

What is your favorite piece or design element in the nursery?
Always the plants. I love plants in any room. Walking into a room makes me feel like I can breathe better. 🙂

Have you thought of how you will use the nursery pieces down the road and can you tell us?
Because the bones of the room are gender neutral it is possible to that we keep the furniture for our future babies and transition Eloise into a different bed until we no longer need a crib. Finally, of course, we will make use of the toddler and full size variations.

What one word comes to mind when you step into the nursery?
Fresh

Sweet Dreams are made of this… (Part 1 of 3)

It has been a while since we featured the évolur Fairbanks Collection in our Beautiful Nurseries category. The last time Fairbanks featured in our blog was…well, never. So today, we are righting that wrong. Thanks to Naz Helms.

Naz has had quite the journey into motherhood. But we are going to save that for our 2nd installment of this feature and you can read about that in her own words. This post, however, is all about Baby Eloise’s Fairbanks Nursery.

Sturdy, dependable, solid. This defines the Fairbanks Collection. The collection features routed molding and sculptured elements that hark back to the time of our early settlers. As with our other collections, the style is transitional and you can match it up with pretty much any type of décor and theme. Naz loves natural elements and bright, cheery colors. This is clearly reflected in the nursery she has put together for Baby Eloise.

The room does not get a lot of natural light. To offset this, Naz used whites and greys to keep the nursery clean and bright. The walls are a warm grey. The flooring is wooden and an off-white rug covers most of the free space in the center of the floor. The solitary window, overlooking the backyard is adorned by white lace curtains.

The wall adjacent to the window features the crib in winter white. The matching double dresser and changing station is placed against the opposite wall with a glider and a couple of side-tables situated conveniently by it. A couple of wooden wall shelves, a baby mobile featuring cutesy sheep over the crib, colorful soft toys by the dozen – some on the shelves, some on the crib and some stowed in a pair of pretty, white and grey rattan-like baskets – and greeting cards by the dozen (too!) – on the window sill, on the side-tables and on the shelves – adorn the nursery. A large mirror, with a unicorn head looking into the crib, hangs over the dresser/changing station. A hanging basket of pothos and a cactus add a touch of brilliant green and complete this sweet and bright nursery.

Our next article features a Q&A with Naz Helms. See you soon!

Be the Change!

The DOM Family has recently partnered with Jersey Cares to leverage their volunteer network in order to continue our ongoing effort in promoting a better life for communities and families in need.

We have always believed that it is important to commit to long-term causes. It’s a natural and organic extension of our mission, that simply put, states:
“Our mission is to give all babies the best possible start in life through a product line of smart and stylish essentials for babies, children and parents.” In its essence, it simply means giving the best possible that we can to families. With the disparity in wealth higher than ever before, an enormous part of our citizenry is in desperate need of basic essentials for a decent life – food, clothing, shelter, medical and legal aid and education. The only way these can be provided to them is by lending them a helping hand in any of the multitude ways possible.

Jersey Cares is a nonprofit organization that recruits and engages volunteers in rewarding, effective efforts that address community-identified needs. They partner with local non-profits to identify needs and implement volunteer projects to meet these needs. We look forward to a fruitful association with them in the coming years!

Baby Milana’s Windsor Palace (Part 2 of 2)

The part 2 of our coverage of Baby Milana’s Windsor nursery features a mini-interview with mom Jennifer Ramos. Here she is to tell us about what she wanted, her inspirations and how this lovely nursery came about.

What was your inspiration for the nursery design and décor?
I was inspired by the crib and based my design and decor around it.

What drew you to évolur over other nursery brands?
What drew me to evolur was the design of the crib and how well made it looked for the price.

Did the room pose any design challenges?
The room did not pose any design challenges it is the perfect size for the furniture.

Did you and your spouse agree on style, or did you blend styles and how?
After looking at several different crib brands I became very frustrated and asked my husband to help me look . The first crib he found was from evolur when he showed me I fell in love.

What does this color scheme mean to you?
I love the color scheme its very soft and pretty. The crib is a beautiful soft beige color with a hint of rustic it goes with any color scheme.

What accessories did you choose and why?
I choose the dresser to go with the crib because I love the detail of the rope that goes across it.

What is your favorite piece or design element in the nursery?
I don’t have a favorite piece or design element because I am truly in love with the entire crib and dresser.

Have you thought of how you will use the nursery pieces down the road and can you tell us?
The crib will eventual be her toddler bed.

What one word comes to mind when you step into the nursery?
Peaceful. Its so beautiful the colors are so pretty its innocent.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Part 2 of 3)

The second instalment of our coverage of Baby Avery’s bohemian chic nursery features Yvette King’s journey in her own words. Without any further ado, here she is:

What was your inspiration for the nursery design and décor?
I wanted my daughter’s nursery to have a “Midsummer’s Night” inspired, dreamy and bohemian feel.

What drew you to évolur over other nursery brands?
I loved the simplicity of the crib. I wanted something simple and elegant.

Did the room pose any design challenges?
Her room is quite small, so we didn’t want to fill it with too much clutter, only the essentials.

Did you and your spouse agree on style, or did you blend styles and how?
My husband let me take the lead.. wise man 😉

What does this color scheme mean to you?
I chose a light gray paint to give the room an airy and calm feeling. The white furniture complimented the paint color really well.

What accessories did you choose and why?
Baby pink and coral bohemian accessories added a cute pop of color to her white and grey nursery. My mom made the custom floral letter hanging on the wall.

What is your favorite piece or design element in the nursery?
During my second trimester (when I had tons of energy) I decided to sand, prime, and paint the vintage dresser I found at a garage sale. It just needed some TLC and new hardware to make it a fabulous changing table.

Have you thought of how you will use the nursery pieces down the road and can you tell us?
I love that the crib and bookshelf will stay with her until she gets older.

Something interesting that happened before, during or after the pregnancy?
My husband and I had a long road to pregnancy, which made this process that much more special for us.

What one word comes to mind when you step into the nursery?
Dreamy!
